AU-Spec Mazda6 Updated For 2019, Adds More Premium Emphasis

For 2019, Mazda Australia has revealed revised pricing and specifications for their larger sedan, the Mazda6. This comes about exactly a year after the heavily facelifted 3rd-generation car made its local debut, taking it further down the path of ‘premium’, and with a price reflecting that more clearly.

Mazda Australia Managing Director, Vinesh Bhindi, said the update reflects Mazda’s commitment to improving and enhancing its vehicles and the driving experience at every opportunity.

“The 2018 redesign of Mazda6 saw significant improvements and equipment upgrades; this update is about fine tuning our flagship passenger car by adding the most advanced technologies available to us,” said Mr. Bhindi.

While the range itself has remained largely untouched, each variant now gains new standard equipment and functionality. That said, each now comes with a price tag at least $1,000 dearer than previously.

Kicking off the updated 6 is the standard inclusion of in-car connectivity options with support for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto being rolled out across the range to supplement the MZD Connect infotainment system. Mazda has even added a second antenna to help with radio and ambient interferences with the in-car audio output - if, you know, you’re about the old school FM radio.

Secondarily, each new Mazda6 for 2019 also receives standard tyre pressure monitoring and the company’s newest iteration of the G-Vectoring Control (GVC) system that was first launched on the newest CX-5, supplementing the advanced traction and body control parameters with active yaw monitoring and control for better high speed stability.

Under the bonnet, the updated Mazda6 has now been designated diesel-free for 2019, eschewing the 2.2-litre SkyActiv-D that was previously offered, leaving the duo of 2.5-litre SkyActiv-G petrol four-cylinder engines as the sole power plants available.
