“Most powerful naturally-aspirated road engine,” it’s claimed.

2017 Aston Martin Valkyrie Prototype

The flagship performance car from hallowed British marque Aston Martin is well on its way, and while we’ve seen the Valkyrie in its entirety in a prototype form already, certain specifics of the car have been deliberately kept private, in order to release them in stages to keep hype bubbling around the insanely-fast new model. Something that’s been a bit of mystery is the powertrain: While we know it’ll match a V12 engine to some electric assistance, we didn’t know what the outputs were.

But a tweet from Cosworth, Aston Martin’s technical partners for the Valkyrie’s powertrain, revealed that the 6.5-litre V12 that they reworked will make it “the most powerful naturally-aspirated road engine.” Big claims by the company, that were very quickly removed shortly after American publication Road & Track published an article citing it.

Aston Martin Valkyrie Will Offer 843kW, No Forced Induction

According to the now-deleted tweet, the 6.5-litre V12 engine is claimed to produce no less than 1,130bhp, or the equivalent of 843kW, easily making it the most powerful N/A engine in the world. However, Cosworth’s tweet didn’t clarify if that figure was produced from the engine alone, or was the combined output of the engine and the hybrid assistance system. That said, it’s been said before that the engine alone would make around 746kW of power, which already makes it far more powerful than the Ferrari 812 Superfast (which only has 588kW).

With a reported weight of about 1,000kg, the Aston Martin Valkyrie will sport one of the highest power-to-weight ratios of any modern hypercar, and thanks to F1-derived aerodynamic trickery and an obsession to omit everything that is not entirely necessary, the Valkyrie promises to offer unrivalled levels of driver engagement and track capability of any road-legal vehicle. As it’s still in its prototype stages with plenty more details still unconfirmed, be sure to stay tuned to CarShowroom as we bring you more updates as they come.
