There might have a been a few borings dinners here and there to celebrate the 100th birthday of acclaimed British sports car brand Aston Martin, but here’s the really exciting part: the stunning CC100 Speedster Concept.
With some cues to the historic race-winning DBR1, the radical CC100 is said by Aston Martin to “provide teasing glimpses of potential design direction”. And that certainly has the world’s sports car enthusiasts salivating.
Powered by a 6.0-litre naturally aspirated V12 engine, the Aston Martin CC100 is no wild dream car – in fact yesterday it lapped the Nordschleife circuit at the Nurburgring ahead of the start of the 24-hour race (Aston Martin chief Dr Ulrich Bez was at the wheel). For company on its lap around the famed German circuit, the Aston Martin CC100 was joined by a 1959 DBR1 driven by British racing legend Sir Stirling Moss.
The Aston Martin CC100 was created by design director Marek Reichman and chief exterior designer Miles Nurnberger. Working out of the company’s headquarters in Gaydon, England the car was assembled by supplier Multimatic Inc under the direction of Aston martin’s motorsport and special projects boss David King.
Multimatic got the job as it specializes in carbon fibre automotive projects and the Aston Martin CC100 uses that composite material extensively inside and out.
The V12 petrol engine drives the back wheels via a lightweight six-speed sequential automatic transmission with steering wheel paddle-shifters for manual changes.
