Alpina Australia Now Includes Drexler LSD Option

From now on, Alpina cars sold in Australia will have the option of being fitted with a mechanical limited slip differential. Just like the units sold in Europe, this LSD is developed by Drexler, and is one of the most frequently selection extras offered.

According to Alpina’s own numbers, 20 percent of all new cars they deliver to customers have this option fitted. If you’re not familiar with Drexler, they’re a German company that specialises in crafting mechanical limited slip differentials, mostly for motorsport applications.

In this case, they’re just as expertly manufactured for their use in Alpina’s cars, being hand built using motorsport-quality materials and featuring a CNC milled housing.

It minimises slip by distributing power and torque to the wheel with the most amount of available grip, and are inherently more responsive to driver behaviour and throttle inputs than their electronically-controlled counterparts.

Basically, it’s a must for lovers of those kind of spine tingling squirrely power slides.

Should any Alpina owner want it after making the purchase, Alpina Cars Australia does offer a retrofit option (for the B3, B4, and B7) for $5,130.
