Porsche will debut the new all-wheel-drive Carrera 4 and 4S in coupe and cabriolet form at the Paris Motor Show next month ahead of sales starting in December.
As per previous AWD 911s, the new model feature wider rear wheel arches (22mm wider than the RWD 911) to cope with 10mm wider rear tyres. Accordingly, the AWD Porsche 911 adds a new-style red light band between the tail-lights.
The new AWD Porsche 911s will mirror the 2WD versions for engines, transmissions (seven-speed manual or seven-speed twin-clutch automatic) and suspension layout, but the lighter body of the current 911 means the AWD versions are 65kgs lighter than the previous model.
The Porsche Carrera 4 runs the 257kW, 3.4-litre flat-six while the Carrera 4S scores the 294kW 3.8-litre version. And that reduced weight is part of the story behind a 16 per-cent cut in fuel consumption.
A first for Porsche, optional on the AWD models and simultaneously introduced as an option in the other 911 derivatives is adaptive cruise control (ACC).
Inside, the AWD models add a new menu for the instrument cluster which displays how the Porsche Traction Management (PTM) all-wheel-drive system is distributing power between front and rear axles.
A change too for all 911 models with the optional ‘Sport Chrono’ pack now adding automatic double-declutching for the manual transmission during downshifts (in SportPlus mode).
