Audi’s all-new, third generation TT has broken cover at the Geneva Motor Show and arrives ‘Downunder’ early next year.
Weighing-in 50kgs lighter than the current model, Audi promises a sportier TT and one whose looks have stronger ties to the iconic original.
At the front, you’ll notice a broader, flatter ‘Singleframe’ grille, sharp, V-shaped contours across the bonnet and the Audi ‘four-ring’ logo now adorns the bonnet (like the Audi A8). Flat headlights (Xenon plus standard, LED optional) and high-tech air intakes are also noticeable new looks.
Measuring 4.18-metres in length, the third generation Audi TT is virtually identical to the previous generation, but the wheelbase is 37mm longer at 2,505mm and the newcomer is 1,832mm wide and 1,353mm high (same as the current TT).
In profile, Audi says the latest TT more closely aligns to the original but a ‘tornado line’ runs horizontally to the tail for extra muscle and width.
An interesting addition at the rear are daytime running lights (DRLs). Also at the rear are horizontal lines to promote width and dynamic turn signals, an active rear spoiler (operates at plus 120km/h) and two round exhaust tailpipes (the latter also a return to the original design).
Of the 11 exterior colours, seven are new (including two which are totally new for Audi).
Inside, Audi’s stylists have adopted the “less is more’ mantra with clean, horizontal lines and a slim instrument panel. There’s also new sports seats with integrated head-restraints and a new-design steering wheel.
Luggage space is 13-litres up at 305-litres.
And the controls are all-new with toggle-switches and a virtual cockpit with a fully digital instrument cluster plus a 12.3-inch TFT screen – all of which take up less space than the previous generation which contributes to a more open feel inside.
In Europe, the third generation Audi TT will be offered with three turbocharged engines – a 2.0TDI and two versions of the 2.0 TFSI petrol powerplant. The turbo-diesel is good for 135kW/380Nm and the 2.0TFSI comes in 169kW and 228kW versions.
Underneath is a MacPherson strut front/four-link rear suspension and available adaptive dampers. Audi has also standard progressive steering. Wheel sizes range from 17-inch to 20-inch.
Can’t wait for some seat time in the latest version of one our favourite sporties.
