We don’t know the Australian specifications yet but the North American version of the all-new Subaru Liberty (Legacy in the U.S.A.) which has just been unveiled at the Chicago Auto Show certainly didn’t pull-up short on the technology front.

Lane Change Assist, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Blind Spot Detection, Steering Responsive Fog Lights, Active Torque Vectoring and updated EyeSight system are just the starters.

Subaru says the keys in developing the all-new, sixth-generation Liberty were ride quality, safety and packaging. Addressing the latter, we’re told to expect overall dimensions identical to the current Subaru Liberty but design changes (including a shift in the A-pillars) have deliver enhanced interior space.

There’s also the not insignificant matter of styling and Subaru’s latest displays a muscular look which was absent from its predecessor.

Inside is a much more dynamic look too with U.S. models boasting a Harman/Kardon audio system.

Familiar engines are reassurance for Subaru Liberty fans – the 2.5-litre, four-cylinder scoring more mid-range torque and the 3.6-litre six-cylinder switches to Subaru’s Lineartronic Continuously Variable Transmission. For the Liberty 2.5I you can chalk-up 130kW/225Nm and for the 3.6R the vital stats are 190kW/335Nm.

Subaru Australia will reveal local details closer to launch.
