One of Renault’s most important models, the Megane small hatchback – bowed its all-new lineup headlined by a hot 152kW GT model.
The Megane GT, created in collaboration with Renaultsport, will, for the first time, be available with the rest of the lineup from launch.
Intriguingly, Renault says a diesel-hybrid Megane will arrive in 2017.
And the French giant has pulled-out all the stops to ensure the all-new Megan wins the small car technology race – a full colour head-up display, 7-inch colour TFT instrument display, portrait format R-Link 2 touchscreen, and , for the GT model, ‘4Control’ four-wheel-steering.
Power comes from a choice of three diesel and three petrol engines and two dual-clutch automatic transmissions (six-speed or seven-speed – they’re model-specific).
Styling is headlined by larger dimensions – the all-new Renault Megane is longer and wider than the previous generation and has a longer wheelbase for extra interior space.
It’s a sporty look for sure with muscly shoulders and taut/precise lines.
Up-front the broad grille incorporates the latest Renault badge design and blends into modern headlights with C-shaped DRLs which bend to the bumper for a distinctive look.
Air scoops are plentiful and the Megane also runs electronically-controlled flaps which close when not needed to enhance aerodynamics.
Inside, as well as all the electronic technology, Renault has been focused on shifting the look/feel of the all-new Megane up-market – top-spec models run full-grain Nappa leather on the steering wheel and some elegant chrome and Alcantara highlights.
Across the range are soft-touch materials on the dashboard, a tall and broad centre console and nice-looking seats which appear to offer plenty of supportive sculpturing.
In Europe, Renault will launch the all-new Megane with a choice of five trim grades and nine-speaker Bose audio.
Renault Australia will announce local specifications and pricing closer to launch.
