Porsche’s all-new third-generation Boxster-based Cayman coupe debuted at the Los Angeles Auto Show last week ahead of Australian launch in April next year.
The entry-level Porsche coupe is 33mm longer overall, 9mm lower and 60mm longer in the wheelbase than the outgoing model but is up to 30kgs lighter (depending on the model).
Power is up (slightly) but torque is down (slightly) – the 2.7-litre flat six delivering 202kW/290Nm but is up to 15 per-cent more fuel efficient – the PDK version rated at 7.7l/100kms. Porsche says the latest Cayman is faster zero to 100km/h with the PDK rated at 5.4 seconds and the six-speed manual at 5.7 seconds.
The 3.4-litre Cayman S is also just a smidge better than its predecessor at 239kW/370Nm. Fuel consumption is as low as 8.0l/100kms (Cayman S PDK) and zero to 100km/h is faster at 4.7 seconds.
Of Course underneath is the latest Boxster chassis with the new electromechanical power steering and adaptive cruise control. Active Suspension Management is on the options list.
