It’s been a long wait for the all-new sixth-generation Y62 Nissan Patrol but the good news is the big SUV will debut at the Australian International Motor Show (Sydney) next month ahead of local sales from January – that will be 14 years since the current generation first appeared.
Nissan says we should expect the entry-level ST-L model Patrol to be priced below $85,000, the Patrol Ti should carry a sub-$95,000 price tag while the range-topping Nissan Patrol Ti-L will be stickered under $115,000.
As we know, the all-new Patrol takes a massive shift up-scale in every department.
Not least of which is under the bonnet with power coming from a 5.6-litre V8 petrol engine driving through a seven-speed automatic transmission and Nissan’s new ALL-MODE 4x4 system – which replaces the traditional lever-operated 4x4 system with electronic control. It’s a stunning powerplant with 298kW of power and 560Nm of torque (with 500Nm available from as low as 2500rpm). Fuel consumption is rated at 14.5l/100kms.
Also a radical change for the all-new Nissan Patrol is the chassis - gone is the ladder-type platform and rigid axles as the newcomer runs a modern chassis with independent suspension. Up-scale Nissan Patrol Ti and Ti-L models debut Nissan’s Hydraulic Body Motion Control system which reduces body roll during sealed road cornering and adjusts to provide maximum suspension travel in off-road mode.
Inside the all-new Nissan Patrol stamps its move upmarket with a stunningly luxurious interior. Noticeably larger wherever you run the measuring tape, the all-new Nissan Patrol delivers significantly more interior space and, good news for families, this is most obvious with enhanced room for second and third row seats plus a massive 3100-litres of cargo space.
Both Nissan Patrol Ti and Ti-L run beautiful leather interiors and amongst its extras, range-topping Nissan Patrol Ti-L adds a massive centre console coolbox, hard-drive navigation, 13-speaker BOSE audio a pair of seven-inch DVD screens in the rear of the front headrests, Nissan’s Around View camera system, intelligent cruise control, blind spot warning and xenon projector headlights.
For those who simply must have a diesel or prefer their Nissan Patrols in workhorse mode, the current Y61 Patrol will continue in turbo-diesel form, selling alongside the all-new Y62 models.
Car Showroom will drive the all-new Nissan Patrol at the national media launch – and as previous Nissan Patrol owners, we’re looking forward to that.
