Amidst all the hype and concept cars at the Geneva Motor Show, perhaps the most noteworthy new arrival from and Australian point of view was Mitsubishi’s all-new Outlander mid-size SUV which will join the local model lineup.

Measuring 4655mm, the newcomer is about the same size as the current Outlander but the all-new looks are much more contemporary while maintaining the hallmark high waistline.

Inside the new Mitsubishi Outlander shows off a much more upmarket look with nice sliver accents and better grade materials throughout. Pleasingly, the steering wheel is now adjustable for both rake and reach.

Under the bonnet, Mitsubishi Outlander will be offered with a choice of 110kW 2.0-litre petrol engine or a 110kW 2.2-litre clean diesel. There’s fuel-saving automatic stop/start and a new six-speed automatic transmission.

With reduced weight, Mitsubishi is targeting better fuel consumption and emissions below 130g/km.

Technology also gets a boost with Lane Departure Warning System, Forward Collision Mitigation and Adaptive Cruise Control.

Outback, the all-new Mitsubishi Outlander gains a new power tailgate and 335mm longer cargo area (up to 1.69-metres).

Mitsubishi also pointed to a future plug-in hybrid powertrain for the Outlander.
