The Koup version of Kia’s all-new Cerato bowed in New York and looks the business thanks to handy design work from the Korean giant’s design studios in Irvine, California.
Longer, lower and wider than the current model, the all-new Kia Cerato Koup looks much more assertive on the road and packs an extra punch with a range-topping 150kW/264Nm turbocharged 1.6-litre petrol engine.
In North America, the range will also include a 129kW/209Nm naturally-aspirated engine. Both powerplants will drive the front wheels via six-speed manual and automatic transmissions.
When Kia North America launches the all-new Cerato Koup in the final quarter of this year, the range will encompass EX and SX models. Over the entry-grade EX, the SX gains 18-inch alloy wheels, a unique front-end style with gloss black grille insert, larger front brakes, alloy pedals and carbon fibre-style accents for the seats.
Underneath is the currently popular MacPherson strut front/torsion beam rear suspension.
Looks like Kia has delivered the Koup we should always have had…well the current model was competent but not exactly tyre-burning.
