Ford’s great-looking, locally designed and developed Ranger ute range will start from $19,740 for the 2.5-litre petrol XL Single Cab.
The new Ford Ranger will employ 20 variants and three engines – a 122kW/226Nm, 2.5-litre, four-cylinder petrol, a 110kW/375Nm, 2.2-litre, four-cylinder turbo-diesel and a 147kW/470Nm, five-cylinder turbo-diesel.
Cab styles will be Single, Super (with rear-opening back doors) and Double Cab. Ford is sticking with Ranger’s well-known model grades – XL, XLT and Wildtrak.
Ranger will also be sold in both two-wheel-drive and four-wheel-drive although in 2WD Ford Ranger XLT you can opt for a Hi-Rider specification pack which brings raised ride amongst its extras.
Specification levels are impressive. Entry-level Ford Ranger XL runs 16-inch steel wheels and features cruise control, Bluetooth, power windows and a colour 4.2-inch multi-function screen all as standard.
Moving up to Ford Ranger XLT brings 17-inch alloy wheels, rain-sensing windscreen wipers, dual-zone climate control air-conditioning, rear parking sensors, privacy glass and an alloy roll-bar.
Ford Ranger Wildtrak is an ace-looking ute and its extras include 18-inch alloy wheels, satellite navigation, rear-view camera, leather trim, electric-adjustable front seats, a sports bar and roof rails.
Very much a creation of Ford Australia who drove design and engineering, the all-new Ranger is a global car for Ford, with expectations for strong sales especially in the Americas and Asia. The Australian-based, four year development program was undertaken by 500 Ford engineers from around the world.
