New ute buyers have an interest in the Bangkok Motor Show currently underway in Thailand as Ford has whipped the covers from the all-new Ranger range which is scheduled for local launch later this year.
As previewed at last year’s Australian International Motor Show in Sydney, the all-new Ford Ranger is a mighty good-looking truck – available in single-cab, double cab and ‘super’ cab (with two rear-hinged access panels).
Under the bonnet is a choice of two turbo-diesel engines - 2.2-litre, four-cylinder (110kW/375Nm) and 3.2-litre five-cylinder (110kW/375Nm) - plus a 2.5-litre, four-cylinder petrol (122kW). Diesels drive through six-speed manual and automatic transmissions (the latter a first for pickups) while the petrol model scores a five-speed manual.
Ford Ranger will be sold in both 4X2 and 4X4, with the two-wheel-drive model available with an optional ‘Hi-Rider’ specification which lifts the ride height to match the 4WD models.
At 5359mm in length and 1850mm wide, the all-new Ranger steps-up in size - reflecting its status as a global pickup for Ford with aspirations for strong sales in North America.
Ford says the all-new Ranger boasts a towing capacity of 3,350kgs and a ute cargo box up to 1.82-cubic metres – that’s up with the very best.
The Ford Ranger models shown in Bangkok included the impressive ‘Wildtrak’ version which rides on sporty 18-inch alloy wheels and looks sensational.
In Bangkok, Ford listed some front-running specifications for the all-new Ranger, including Bluetooth with voice control and a rear-view camera system.
Interior space is also a key attribute of the all-new Ford Ranger, reflecting Ford’s understanding that pickups are increasingly used by families. And, again highlighting the broad use of pickups, Ford Ranger’s model range covers easy-clean vinyl seats to luxurious leather.
Practicality also gets the thumbs-up with a glovebox large enough to hold a 16-inch laptop plus storage for six drinks cans and two 1.5-litre water bottles.
All-wheel-drive models highlight lots of technology, impressive clearance measurements and 800mm wading depth, assuring the all-new Ford Ranger is equipped for serious off-road action.
