Ford’s all-new European Kuga SUV will debut in April and the ‘Blue Oval’ has confirmed a sub-$30,000 starting price. Kuga will be pitched into the ultra-competitive mid-size SUV segment against the likes of Mazda CX-5 and the just-launched all-new Toyota RAV4.
Word is the newcomer will be the most technically advanced Ford sold in Australia with features including intelligent all-wheel-drive, advanced safety including Emergency Assistance, and fuel-sipping EcoBoost engine. Petrol power will come from a 1.6-litre, four-cylinder EcoBoost while the 2.0-litre turbo diesel engine is from Ford’s Duratorq family. Both will drive via six-speed automatic transmissions.
Ford actually previewed the all-new Kuga to the public at its drive event at last year’s Australian International Motor Show and has been massively encouraged by feedback about its looks, stylish interior and practicality. In particular the hands-free tailgate opening was a hit – sensors under the rear bumper are activated by your foot, triggering an automatic opening (very handy for those full-handed with groceries or sporting equipment).
The range will follow the current Ford trend – entry-level Ambiente, mid-range Trend and range-topping Titanium.
Among the safety features is Ford Curve Control which counters understeer by clever automatic braking.
All sounds impressive and if the current Ford Kuga is a measure, European design and quality will also be big plus-points.
