Hyundai wasn’t going to be outgunned in LA – the Korean giant whipping-off the covers from the all-new Elantra which we’ll see in the first quarter of next year.
Styling continues the Elantra theme but is more aerodynamic with a spoiler under the rear bumper and an integrated bootlid spoiler contributing to a drag Cd of just 0.27.
The all-new Hyundai Elantra is 203mm longer and 25mm wider than the current generation.
Hyundai says there will be a massive change in paint with the all-new Elantra to be offered in eight colours all of which are new.
Inside Hyundai has ramped-up the luxury with premium soft-touch materials, an available 4.2-inch colour TFT LCD instrument display, eight-inch satellite navigation screen, eight-speaker Infinity audio and more room for rear-seat passengers. In fact with 3,120-litres of interior space it is classed as a mid-size car in some markets.
Same for boot capacity which, at 407-litres, is ahead of Toyota Corolla, Mazda3 and Ford Focus.
Look for two new petrol engines – the 2.0-litre ‘Nu’ Atkinson cycle unit delivering 110kW at 6200rpm and peak torque of 179Nm at 4500rpm or the turbocharged 1.4-litre Kappa engine with 95kW/211Nm.
Transmissions choice will be a six-speed manual or a six-speed automatic.
On the safety front, Hyundai’s all-new Elantra will boast seven airbags, pedestrian detection, lane keeping alert and land change assist, blind spot detection, rear cross-traffic alert and a reversing camera.
Hyundai Australia will announce full local specifications and prices when the Hyundai Elantra is launched in February 2016.
