Audi’s handsome all-new A6 Allroad has been launched in Europe and joins the Australian model lineup in the second half of this year.
Boasting the same standout styling of the latest Audi A6 range, the third generation Allroad is slightly larger than its predecessor (4.94 metres long, 1.90 metres wide and 1.47 metres tall) but with 20 per cent of the body made from aluminium, the newcomer is 70kgs lighter. Fuel economy is also improved by 20 per cent.
Alluding to its off0-road capability, the Audi A6 Allroad sits 6.0cms higher than the regular A6 Avant, the fenders are flared with strips to prevent stone chips, there are stainless steel underbody covers and the exhaust tailpipes are flattened. Standard versions feature contrasting colours for the plastic protective strips or you can option them in aluminium with a full paint finish.
Audi A6 Allroad also has a unique exterior colour available – ‘Java Braun’.
Inside is the usual Audi luxury with some unique features such as aluminium door sills stamped with ‘Allroad’ and ‘Santos Brown’ colour with further aluminium inlays. The 2.91-metre wheelbase afford plenty of interior space while out back there is a 565-litre cargo space (1,680-litres with seats folded) with a rail system and tensioning straps to secure loads.
Naturally Audi technology abounds including WLAN hotpost with internet connectivity via UMTS, a head-up display, optional ventilation and massaging for the front seats, touchpad satellite navigation and a 15-speaker Bang & Olufsen audio system. There is also Audi active lane assist with side assist, a 360-degree camera and park assist automatic parking.
Under the bonnet is a choice of four turbocharged V6 engines – one petrol and three diesels.
The petrol version runs Audi’s 3.0-litre TFSI with 228kW/440Nm. At launch Audi will offer the 3.0-litre turbo diesel with three outputs – 150kW, 180kW and 230kW – but an ultra-low emissions clean diesel version of the 180kW version will follow.
An eight-speed tiptronic automatic transmission is fitted to the 230kW turbo-diesel while the rest use a seven-speed dual-clutch auto. All models use Audi’s Quattro all-wheel-drive system.
The Audi A6 Allroad runs on 18-inch, five spoke alloy wheels (19-inch and 20-inch on the options list) and adaptive air suspension which lowers the body by 15mm at high speed and can raise it up by 35mm for off-road action.
AUDI Australia will confirm local specifications and pricing closer to launch.
