Aston Martin, Red Bull Unveils AM-RB 001 Hypercar

Remember earlier this year when Aston Martin announced that it will be, together with the Formula 1 championship-winning Red Bull Racing, be designing and developing a mad-fast hypercar called the AM-RB001? Well, they’re all sold out, as revealed by AutoExpress.

Depending on how you look at things, this is either surprising or completely expected. If you err toward the latter option, then you’d probably figure that Aston Martin and Red Bull would have approached a couple of potential buyers, locking down at least the first customer.

And as proven by the many buyers coming out of the woodwork to own an ultra-rare car, new or old, and to pay an obscene amount of money for it, it therefore should’t be much of a shocker to find that a further 149 customers to fork out for the remaining road going production run.

How much? That was never revealed but rumours persist that the deposits themselves run around £500,000 (or ~AU$843,000) with the car costing upwards of £2,000,000 (or ~AU$3.37 million).

After all, there has never been a car like this and there’s a good chance that there will never be another one like it again: today’s closest interpretation of a Formula 1 car for the road. The project will be headed by Red Bull Racing’s chief technical officer Adrian Newey and Aston Martin’s chief designer Marek Reichman.

Power would come from a mid-mounted V12 engine that’s naturally aspirated but is expected to produce over 670kW (or 900hp). And because the futuristic and clever aerodynamic body is made using cutting edge motorsport-derived materials and production techniques, a 900kg weight is possible.

The AM-RB001 is also being planned for actual motorsport use and is expected to deliver performance to worry most LMP1 Le Mans race cars.
