This wild looking thing is called the Arcanum, and it’s the spawn of the collective minds at a Bulgarian EV hypercar startup called Alieno. As you can probably tell by the nature of these photos, the car isn’t quite a reality yet.
Despite its otherworldly name and exterior styling that’s perhaps resembles Lamborghini a little too much, its makers have big ambitions for their debut vehicle. Purported to have already taken buyers in its native market, these intrepid early adopters are promised a properly monstrous vehicle, one that’s capable of delivering up to 3,893kW of combined thrust from its electric motors.
Alieno says that the car will be offered in several power outputs, depending on specification, but each will assault the senses with four figure kW numbers and ridiculous torque figures - nearly 9,000Nm. To achieve this, the Arcanum can be fitted with up to 6 motors per wheel.
We’re not sure if the laws of physics will jive with current tyre technology. Our educated guesses point at even F1 racing slicks being easily overwhelmed by that much force. That said, even with grip levels sorted, Alieno will need some seriously next level battery tech to keep the 24 electric motors fed for long enough to have a practical range.
Weight will also be an issue, especially if their 180kW battery pack is to be fitted in its most extreme Track specification, and so is making sure these tightly packed 800V Graphene Lithium Polymer cells are kept cool during an intense stint. However, in lighter driving, its largest battery option can apparently run the Arcanum for up to 1,000km.
According to Alieno’s testing and estimations, the Arcanum will be capable of completing between 1 to 3 laps of the 22km Nurburgring Nordschleife while in Race mode under maximum load, and the same goes for 2 to 6 laps of the Circuit de la Sarthe (Le Mans). This plays into the EV maker’s own motorsports plans, which involves qualifying for the LMP1 class of the World Endurance Championship some day.
They also say that the new batteries and vehicle structure has been designed to work an innovative Plug & Play system, enabling quick swapping of depleted power modules for fully charged ones for prolonged performance.
Alieno is presently working on a new production facility in Bulgaria where the Arcanum is to be hand built. Pre-order base price is set at 750,000 Euros, though this can stretch to 1.5 million Euros for its RP5 spec. Depending on which variant is booked, these very privileged owners will nonetheless need to exercise plenty of patience as delivery times will vary between 18 to 30 months.
