Ahead of its local availability starting later this month, details that flesh out our spread of the Alfa Romeo Stelvio have been announced, with the new Italian SUV starting at $65,900 - a some $5,000 premium over the Giulia sedan it’s based on.
The Stelvio will arrive with a choice of two engines, a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol and a 2.2-litre turbodiesel, each coming with standard all-wheel drive and Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) with pedestrian detection. The 2.0-litre petrol offers up 148kW and 330Nm, meaning its an identical tune to the Giulia Super. The diesel, meanwhile, manages to upstage the former on both torque and peak power, outputting 154kW and 470Nm.
With the numbers favouring the oil burner, it’s unsurprising to learn that the all-round gutsier 2.2-litre can accelerate the Stelvio to 100km/h from rest in 6.6 seconds compared to the petrol’s 7.2 second run. Both engines are mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission sourced from ZF.
No matter which choice of motor is selected, the Stelvio offered comes a uniform configuration with the same amount of kit and trim. This includes 19-inch alloys, an 8.8-inch infotainment system, 7.0-inch multi-info display that straddles the the analogue gauges, bi-xenon headlights, electric tailgate, leather seats with electric adjustment for the front passengers, dual zone climate control, and Alfa’s DNA Drive Mode system.
In terms of safety, the Stelvio does pack quite a fairly comprehensive suite. Included, of course, is the aforementioned AEB, but supplemented by 6 airbags, front and rear parking sensors, lane departure warning, cruise control, and a reversing camera.
If that’s a little shy of your expectations, the Stelvio can be specified with the Veloce Options Pack for an additional $5,000. For that, it receives some new dampers from KONI, sportier alloys (also 19-inchers), heated sports steering wheel, sports front seats, aluminium interior trim, aluminium pedals, heated front seats, and black roof rails.
FCA Australia will also be bringing in 300 examples of the Stelvio First Edition, with 200 of those being the diesel and the remaining 100 being petrols. They say that each is stuffed with over $8,000 worth of extra goodies, some of which are shared with the Veloce Pack.
For example, the First Edition receives the KONI dampers as standard, along with the aluminium interior bits , along with those heated seats and steering wheel, but adds new wheels exclusive to the First Edition, a panoramic sunroof, privacy glass, and a premium 900W 14-speaker Harman Kardon audio system.
