Unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show as a ‘concept’, Alfa Romeo’s all-new 4C sports car is already scheduled for production and sales will start next year.
The latest Alfa Romeo sports car flows from the 8C Competizione model and – like all true sports cars – drives the rear wheels, in this case via Alfa’s ‘TCT’ twin dry-clutch automatic transmission. Power comes from the Italian giant’s new 1750 TBi turbocharged, four-cylinder engine which delivers zero to 100km/h in under five seconds.
With an overall length of just four metres and a wheelbase of just 2.4-metres, the Alfa Romeo 4C looks both edgy and stylish – as only Italian sports cars can do. Same inside, with the hallmark Alfa style and pure sports car purposefulness easy to see.
It will be interesting to see how the production version pans out as the Alfa Romeo 4C concept car shown in Geneva boasted a carbon fibre body and aluminium rear sub-frame – a combination which delivered an all-up weight less than 850kgs, distributed 40 per cent front/60 per cent rear.
Suspension on the show car was complex too – a ‘high quadrilateral’ front and MacPherson strut independent rear.
