Although only slated for arrival in February next year, that hasn’t stopped a considerable number of Australians from ordering the "world’s fastest sports sedan” for themselves well in advance. Alfa Romeo Australia is happy to report over 100 orders thus far for the Giulia QV thus far, indicative of the market's excitement over the Italian firm's 'turnaround' offering.
In QV spec, the Giula is powered by a breathtaking 2.9-litre twin-turbo V6, “inspired by Ferrari expertise and technologies,” producing a segment-leading 375kW/600Nm, propelling it from rest to 100km/h in 3.9 seconds and pushing it onward to a dizzying 305km/h. It’s also exclusively rear-wheel drive, with a trick rear differential able to send 100% of the hot Giulia’s power to either of the rear wheels. It’s also the only car in its class to feature active aerodynamics in the form of a front splitter that lowers at speed, and features a carbon-fibre propshaft to help keep weight down. All-in-all, it weighs about 40kg lighter than a comparable BMW M3.
It’s not all go-faster bits too, with most of the tech you’d find on its rivals making an appearance here too. There’s an adaptive headlight system, forward collision warning, autonomous emergency braking, electric seats, and a Harman Kardon sound system that we reckon will only distract you from the soundtrack of the V6 up front. Speaking of which, did we mention that it claims to sip only 8.2l/100km despite all that power? That’s down to a cylinder deactivation system, contributing to the best-in-class fuel consumption claim.
The Alfa Romeo Giulia QV will be making is debut Down Under at the Alfa Romeo Portsea Polo on January 14th.
