ACCC February 2015 Car Recalls and Defects

Here at CarShowroom.com.au we are spoilt we only ever get to drive cars that are brand new and with low kilometres, so we rarely have issues with any of the cars we test.

However we know that buyers of new cars often fall victim to issues and recalls, so we have decided to post a list of monthly recalls put out by the ACCC.

In February 2015 there where numerous recalls, below is a list of all cars that have had a recall issued in the past month.

rear seat belt buckles  may have a defective latch.

frontal impact, a defective latch could fail

Contact your Ford authorised Dealership for inspection

Ford Falcon FGII Sedan/Utility and Ford Territory SZ vehicles built from November 12, 2013 through October 13, 2014.

 ignition switch electrical connector to disengage.

the engine will stall, electrical functions will be lost, and the vehicle will be unable to be re-started

Owners are advised to contact their Ford authorised Dealership for inspection and rectification.

Holden Barina Spark with manual transmission built 11 January 2010 to 26 September 2012

clutch pedal adjustment may be too high

driver will not be able to disengage the clutch to select or change gears

Holden will write to all affected customers to notify them of required action.

Holden EM Malibu Sedan built 10 OCT 2012 – 13 NOV 2014

pivot pin inside the twin buckle assembly for the right-hand rear and centre rear seatbelts may not have been assembled correctly and may slide sideways.

may render the affected seatbelt unable to restrain an occupant,

Holden will write to all affected customers to notify them of required action.

Front and rear hub assemblies may have overly brittle bolts installed

fixings could puncture the front brake disc

Owners will be notified and instructed to take their vehicles to a Land Rover authorised repairer

2015MY Range Rover and Range Rover Sport

Incorrectly sized blower motor wire was installed 

may overheat and pose a fire hazard.

2015MY Range Rover, Range Rover Sport & Discovery

wheel nuts may be made from material where the ultimate tensile strength (UTS) is lower than required specification

wheels may detach, posing an accident hazard.

Range Rover 3.0L V6 S/C and 5.0L V8 S/C : 2013 & 2014 MY vehicles

Brake Vacuum Hose may be incorrectly installed

front brake flexible hoses may rupture.

Mercedes-Benz Models E212 and CLS218

seal on the secondary bulkhead in the engine compartment 

Seal may come in contact with hot engine components and could result in a risk of fire

Letters will be sent to all owners of affected vehicles

Mercedes-Benz passenger cars, Sprinter and Vito vans fitted with OM651 diesel engines

 seal ring between the timing chain tensioner and the engine may leak oil.

Leaking oil may result in a hazard to other road users and in extreme cases a fire risk.

Letters will be sent to all owners of affected vehicles

Mitsubishi Pajero NS, NT, NW and NX Diesel vehicles built between 10/10/2006 to 10/03/2014

engine timing chain tensioner

timing chain may break and, in the worst case scenario, the engine could stop and not restart 

Consumers should contact their nearest Mitsubishi dealer to arrange inspection and repairs.

secondary bonnet latch may not hold the bonnet closed as designed

bonnet may open while driving

 gasket of the timing chain tensioner may have been manufactured out of specification

oil leakage reaches a certain amount, the engine may stop

Wheel hub components may not have been tightened to specification.

brake calliper could separate from the wheel assembly

airbag wiring has moved due to significant vehicle vibration

airbag may deploy inadvertently

Owners of affected vehicles will be notified to contact a Renault Dealer to arrange for inspection and rectification of their vehicle.

Toyota FJ Cruiser GSJ15 (Produced from the 1st ~ 23rd August, 2013)

steering intermediate shaft may have been insufficiently welded

weld could fracture resulting in loss of steering control

Owners will be contacted by mail to present their vehicle to their preferred Toyota Dealer for the replacement of the steering intermediate shaft assembly at No Charge.

Mahindra 7 Seater SUV vehicle sold 12th June 2012 - 30th June 2014

intermittent fault code that may inhibit deployment of the side curtain airbag.

airbag does not deploy correctly
