Word on the street is Mazda has a stylish coupe version of the hot-selling Mazda6 under wraps and it may launch as early as next year.
Rumours doing the rounds in Europe and Japan suggest the ‘Shinari’ concept from 2010 is the ‘mood board’ for the Mazda6 Coupe – although the gorgeous looks of the sedan have long had ‘day-dreamers’ pondering a coupe version.
Some say Mazda may even inject some ‘muscle’ into the Mazda6 coupe by adopting the lowered bonnet and wheel-arch flares from the ‘Shinari’.
At the recent Mazda2 launch on the Gold Coast, local boss Martin Benders happily reported the significantly improved global financial results for the Japanese giant – a good profit enable car companies to fund hitherto risky projects like sports coupes…so the time is right for Mazda to look at image-boosting models like a two-door ‘6’.
