Like other 3 Series derivatives, the Gran Turismo variant will be offered in ‘Modern’, ‘Luxury’ or ‘Sport’ lines and the options list includes M adaptive suspension, sports seats and variable sports steering.

Entry-level is the 320i Gran Turismo (135kW/270Nm) and the range-topper is the 328i (180kW/350Nm). Diesel power comes from the 135kW/380Nm 320d. All drive through BMW’s sublime eight-speed automatic transmission.

Of course the Gran Turismo version of the BMW 3 Series is all about extra versatility – the roofline is 81mm taller, overall length is up by 200mm and the wheelbase is extended by 110mm. This means extra space for passengers.

But combine those extra dimensions with a 40:20:40 split-fold rear-seat and twin-lever boot and you get massive cargo capacity in the range of 520-litre – 1600-litres (accessed by an electronically-controlled tailgate).

The 3 Series Gran Turismo also debuts a significant re-tune of the aerodynamics package – all models score an active rear spoiler, front apron air curtains and air breathers behind the front wheels.

320d $71,800
328i $76,500
