Today, crash-testing authority ANCAP announced its ratings for the Fiat 500X crossover, the Mercedes-Benz E-Class, and the Subaru Impreza, awarding all three a 5-star safety rating.
The Mercedes-Benz E-Class have also been given a ‘Good’ rating for pedestrian safety by the group, with CEO James Goodwin remarking that its “long list of standard safety technologies, including all three grades of autonomous emergency braking, an active bonnet for increased pedestrian protection and pre-crash systems which prepare for an impact in order to minimise occupant injury.”
The other two cars also got mention from Goodwin, but the remarks were less flattering. While the 500X and Impreza managed to score highly in the crash tests themselves, the CEO mentioned that the lack of autonomous emergency braking on all variants was a bit of a let-down. “It’s disappointing these technologies have not been provided as standard across their respective model ranges and for the safety of all road users we want to see an increase in the fitting of this technology,” he commented.
The ANCAP CEO went on, saying that these tests “cap off a remarkable year for pedestrian protection, with almost all vehicles rated this year achieving either ‘Acceptable’ or ‘Good’ ratings.”
The full 5-star rating applies to all variants of the Mercedes-Benz E-Class and Subaru Impreza, while the Fiat 500X’s rating applies to all variants built from July 2016 onward.
