ANCAP has completed its latest round of local one-off barrier tests and, no surprise, the Honda Accord, Honda City, Nissan X-Trail, Peugeot 308 and Toyota Prius C have all repeated their earlier performances in other identical tests conducted in their countries of origin and thus scored the maximum five-star rating.
Makes sense really as a barrier in Europe is the same as a barrier in Australia.
Even though the X-Trail earned the maximum five-star rating, ANCAP wanted to pick a fight with Nisan and criticized the Japanese giant for deleting Autonomous Emergency Braking on X-Trail and Qashqai models sold here.
Again though we question the relevance and expense of local ANCAP testing given the only Australian-made cars are ceasing production.
It’s a duplication we don’t need as all cars sold in Australia after Holden, Ford and Toyota cease production will be subject to identical NCAP testing in their home countries.
