As predicted in the European media, BMW has confirmed the upcoming M3 sedan and M4 coupe will be powered by a turbocharged 3.0-litre V6 engine.
BMW, being BMW the engine which, in the case of the M3, replaces the glorious 4.0-litre V8 (309kW/400Nm) raises the bar – the turbo V6 said to be good for more than 500Nm of torque and around 316kW of power.
Drive is via a six-speed manual transmission or seven-speed dual-clutch automatic and a revised Active M differential (which gains an electronic actuator)
And of course these models wouldn’t wear the ‘M’ badge without some serious technology. Both are lighter than regular models (thanks largely to both featuring carbon-fibre roof panels).
Aerodynamics too follow the lead of other current ‘M’ models including Air Curtains and gills to direct air around the front wheels.
No word yet from BMW Australia regarding local plans.
