CarShowroom will be joining the national media launch of the new, high-performance Ford Focus ST on 28-29 August, but ahead of that, Ford has revealed the globally-acclaimed Fiesta range-topper will be priced locally from, $25,990.
Fiesta ST will arrive in local Ford dealerships next month and - thanks for Ford’s early announcement that the hot hatch was coming to Australia - massive interest is already being shown. Like its Focus ST cousin, Australian market Fiesta ST comes from Ford’s premier European assembly plant in Cologne, Germany.
And right off the bat we can see the new Ford Focus ST, at that very sharp $25,990, makes both the Opel Corsa OPC three-door ($28,990) and Volkswagen Polo GTI ($27,790) look expensive. Even the Peugeot 208 three-door (Allure Sport) at $26,490 needs a trim to match the pocket rocket from Ford.
Put simply, the ST is the most powerful Fiesta so far – 134kW/240Nm (147kW/290Nm on ‘overboost) from its 1.6-litre EcoBoost petrol engine (almost 20 per-cent more power that the first generation’s 2.0-litre engine). Fuel consumption is rated at 6.2l/100kms.
The ST also debuts new technology for the Ford Fiesta – including Ford’s SYNV system (integrated with an eight-speaker Sony audio system with a 4.2-inch colour TFT display) and Emergency Assistance with an on-board GPS locator.
Just from these pics we like the improved looks of both the latest Ford Fiesta and the extra aero goodies included in the ST. And judging by review from European media, we’re also in for a treat when we get behind the wheel.
“The Fiesta ST is your all-in hot hatch with outstanding driving dynamics, EcoBoost power and a full suite of smart technology features buyers don’t expect in this segment,” revealed Ford marketing chief David Katic. “We feel the aggressive starting price and outstanding fuel economy will give customers another reason to consider the Fiesta ST”.
All will be revealed 29-30 August when Car Showroom gets some ‘seat time’ in Ford’s latest German-sourced hot hatch.
