Audi’s Australian arm has just outed the 2020 Q3 Sportback as a rival to coupe-style crossovers from BMW and Mercedes-Benz, priced from $49,900 before on-road costs. The Q3 Sportback is slated to hit local showrooms in March.

The Q3 Sportback will be offered initially with just one powertrain option but two trim levels namely: 35 TFSI S Line and 35 TFSI Launch Edition. The latter is kitted out with the S Line exterior package as well as other kit, more on this later.

The coupe-shaped SUV, as mentioned, lands here in 35 TFSI guise which means it gets a turbocharged 1,498cc four-cylinder engine which churns out 110kW at 5,000 rpm and 250Nm from 1,500 rpm. The engine is mated to a six-speed S Tronic automatic transmission. This means it’ll do the century sprint from rest in 9.6 seconds and has top speed of 204 km/h.

The Q3 Sportback tips the scales at 1,535 kg, but, according to the manufacturer, sips fuel at a rate of just 6 L/100km on the combined WLTP cycle. Its CO2 emission is rated at 167g/km. Which isn’t too bad.

Inside, there are touches of Alcantara and satin-finish metal surfaces, otherwise it’s identical to the Q3. The roofline of the Sportback impacts roominess for second-row passengers but offers up 530 litres of boot space with the seats placed upright.

The Q3 Sportback receives safety tech such AEB with cyclist pedestrian detection, lane departure warning, lane change warning, rear cross-traffic assist, tyre pressure monitor, hill descent control as well as parking sensors and a rear-view camera.

The Launch Edition trim buys you metallic paint, privacy glass, black exterior trim, folding/heated wing mirrors, auto dimming rear view mirror, coloured interior lights, power adjustable heated front seats with lumbar support, a 360-degree parking camera system as well as adaptive cruise control, active lane assist and emergency assist.

For now, only the 35 TFSI powertrain is on sale and will arrive in March. However, the company says the 40 TFSI might arrive sometime in April or May with pricing and specs to be confirmed then.
