Mercedes-Benz Australia have announced revisions to their C217 S-Class Coupe and Cabriolet range for 2019, shedding some dollars off the asking price in the process. That said, these still aren’t exactly affordable models by any means, but should offer more value to those seeking a very posh two-door luxury cruiser.

Being in the upper echelons of on sale cars, the S-Class coupe hasn’t seen many updates since its local market introduction in 2015, but with the recent facelift, Benz have elected to tighten up the line-up as well, taking the variant count to three, each can be had as either a coupe or soft top convertible.

For 2019, the ‘entry-level’ guise comes by way of the S 560 which replaces the S 500 Coupe. Outgoing as well is the older 335kW 4.7-litre turbo-petrol V8, replaced by a much newer and more potent 4.0-litre bi-turbo V8 delivering 345kW and 700Nm.

As standard the, new S 560 is equipped with 20-inch alloys, a standard AMG exterior package despite not being an Affalterbach product, full LED headlamps and tail lamps, Air Balance suspension with Magic Body Control adaptive dampers, ambient interior lighting with 64 hues, panoramic glass roof (coupe only), wireless smartphone charging, 13-speaker Burmester stereo, and a Comand Online infotainment system.

And that’s on top of its comprehensive driver aid and active safety feature set, one that includes AEB, Blind Spot Monitoring, Lane-Change Assist, and Adaptive Cruise Control to name just some.

Above that comes the proper AMG versions which kicks of with the S 63. Under its bonnet is essentially the same 4.0-litre unit previously mentioned but with power turned up to 450kW and 900Nm. There’s also much larger brakes thrown into the mix, an AMG exhaust system, a sportier blend of air suspension.

As it did before, the AMG S 65 is the king of the hill here, pairing the car with a 6.0-litre twin-turbocharged V12 engine that generates 463kW and a staggering 1,000Nm. In addition to the overkill levels of surge at the push of the accelerator, the range-topping variant also receives a bunch of luxury features unavailable to the lesser variants, going so far as to add Swarovski crystals into its LED headlamps. That might help explain the over $100,000 price gulf between the S 63 and S 65.
