Are those Volvo headlights?
Though its set to make its debut in just one weeks’ time, Ford has seen it fit to tease its venerable family hatch, the Focus, to drum up talk around the model ahead of its official arrival. With this latest generation, the Focus is set to retain much-loved characteristics of previous-generation models, while moving further upmarket than any of its predecessors.
When the Focus arrives, it’ll have to do battle in a busy segment populated by favourites like the Volkswagen Golf, Renault Megane, Hyundai i30, and Toyota Corolla hatch. That said though, the upmarket push that Ford is taking will likely see the new Focus honing in on only the plusher end of that spectrum.
The short teaser, uploaded on Facebook, affords us a glimpse at things like he headlights, grille, wheels, and rear badging. While Ford and Volvo have been ‘divorced’ for several years now (current owners Geely bought the Swedish marque from Ford ever so long ago), we can’t help but notice the ‘Volvo-inspired’ headlights, featuring daytime running lights and even internal components in a manner that bears more than a passing resemblance to the units found on the Volvo V40 hatch.
What is clear to see is the sharp grille, diamond-polished alloys, and ‘Focus’ logotype that stretches across the tail (again, similar to what Volvo does). There will also be, at a later date, a ‘Focus Active’ that will add ride-height and body-cladding to make the Focus resemble a crossover (once again, like what Volvo does with the V40 CrossCountry).
The new Ford Focus is claimed to be wider, lower, and longer than the current-generation model, which should translate to more space for passengers. There’ll also be significant upgrades to the aerodynamics and fuel efficiency of the new model, as well as perhaps even an electric or electrified version of his Mk4 model. In any case, stay tuned to CarShowroom as we bring you more updates as they come.
