This is SUV opulence, period.
Land Rover has rather excitedly unveiled its latest addition to the refreshed Range Rover series, despite the model being earmarked for is debut at the LA Auto Show. The all-new Range Rover SVAutobiography is the range-topper for the luxury SUV lineup, and is described by Land Rover’s Special Vehicle Operations (SVO) as a “sanctuary for relaxation, that doubles as a mobile technology hub.”
The SVAutobiography is built off the bones of a long-wheelbase Range Rover, something that would be regarded by most as the last word in high-riding luxury travel. However, SVO’s efforts were focused at overhauling the cabin to provide the ultimate luxury experience, rivalling what you’d find in a top-flight Mercedes-Maybach S-Class or even a Bentley Flying Spur.
“The Range Rover SVAutobiography is the epitome of luxury, comfort, and refinement. Our standard-bearer for quality and precision, exemplifying the attention to detail and sophistication that has been a hallmark of our most luxurious SUV stretching back almost 50 years.” — Gerry McGovern, Chief Design Officer, Land Rover
The exterior looks broadly similar to what you’d find with the rest of the recently-refreshed Range Rover lineup, though the cabin has received extensive revisions to push the luxury envelope that much further. Two large ‘Executive Class’ seats dominate the rear-half of the cabin, and it’s claimed to offer over 1.2-metres of legroom, with an impressive reclining angle allowing you to easily get comfortable in the rear quarters.
If that’s not enough, those two seats offer a hot-stone massage function, was well as heated foot & calf rests for the bosses in the back, who can also be entertained by a couple of integrated 10-inch touchscreens mounted on the back of the front seats. There’s a large centre console running between the rear pews offering numerous settings and adjustments, allowing rear passengers the ability to tailor the car precisely to their liking.
There’s 4G wifi available too, to ensure that a captain of industry has the connectivity needed to chair an e-meeting, as well as a small refrigerator that’s sized just enough to carry two wine bottles (or four water bottles). And as for practicality, there’s a ‘Power Deployable Veneered Loadspace Floor’ (in essence, a floor that rolls out a little to help you reach things that you might need to put all the way in the back of the boot).
There are three engine options for the Range Rover SVAutobiography, namely a 5.0-litre V8, a 4.4-litre V8, and a 2.0-litre plug-in hybrid system, identical to the engines available for the regular Range Rover that was recently facelifted, which you can read about here.
