Some convincingly legitimate looking photos of the 2018 Porsche 911 GT2 RS (they’ve skipped the ‘standard’ GT2 entirely for a single RS permutation for this generation) have surfaced from the abyss of the internet, shedding more light on a car that we’ve only so far seen fully unsheathed at the recent E3 video game conference during Microsoft’s keynote to present the next Forza Motorsport racing game.

It was a sneak peek in every sense of the word, and its appearance there seemed only as a courtesy of appreciation for the brand’s newly inked deal with Microsoft Studios and its status as the ‘cover car’  for the aforementioned game. The car on stage was stationary, doors were shut and locked, no photographers were allowed to get especially close to it, and no specifications or other details were given apart from what we could glean just by looking at it.

Thankfully, the car looks every bit as unhinged as we expected to be, a cross between 911 GT3’s crazy aero package and wide stance coupled with even more carbon, but this time in an exposed matte weave that runs as dual stripes from end to end. It’s expected to weigh in at sub-1,500kg kerb.

Porsche has achieved that weight reduction by some creative means, such as using Gorilla Glass for the windscreens, further reduction of sound insulation, and a fully titanium exhaust system. Climate control and infotainment will be options to further shave off some pounds, while the special Weissach pack goes a notch further by switching to a titanium roll cage, adding a carbon roof, and switching to magnesium wheels.

As we know, slotted under that huge fixed rear wing is the most powerful engine ever to be put into a factory 911. A 3.8-litre twin-turbocharged flat-six taken from the Turbo S, suspected to be uprated to 522kW or higher with masses of torque sent through a 7-speed PDK dual-clutch transmission to the rear wheels.

Inside, the interior will be dressed in a red on black colour Alcantara scheme with exposed carbon fibre inserts. The carbon bucket seats are leather, though, and do look welcomingly plush in contrast to the hard edginess of the rest of the interior.

Porsche is planning to have their newest car set the hillclimb on fire at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in England, which is happening now between June 29th to July 2nd. But before that goes forward, enjoy these pictures of the crazy/beautiful 911 GT2 RS.
