Nissan’s new EV will go far more mainstream.
The 2018 Nissan Leaf, just a little way away from its debut in September, has been spotted totally undisguised as it underwent filming for promotional material. The highly-anticipated family hatch was captured in a trio of low-res, high-zoom images by Twitter user @JJORDY, and show off the Leaf’s newfound flair.
Where the outgoing Leaf wears a very distinctive suit, the new model appears to fit far more seamlessly into the current crop of Nissan vehicles. The Japanese carmaker has been on a bit of a design roll of late, with even the Micra hatchback sporting a far more dynamic and upmarket design language, and the Leaf has fallen into place rather well. We can’t really go into much detail on the design as there’s very few details to glean from these images, but the overall treatment doesn’t vary far from what we’ve seen from the company in the past.
The incoming Leaf EV has been teased previously, and at the very least promises a pretty set of headlights with very intricate details. More importantly, the new electric car will pack a significantly improved battery pack that will offer a far greater electric range of around 300km-400km on a single charge, rather than the current-generation’s 135km-172km on a single charge. The Leaf will also come with things like Nissan’s ProPilot technology (semi-autonomous advanced driver assistance) as well as ‘e-Pedal,’ which essentially allows you to accelerate and brake the vehicle with just one pedal.
Nissan Australia has already confirmed that the Nissan Leaf will be offered in our market, though specification (long-range battery pack a given, we think) and pricing remains undefined for now. Stay tuned to CarShowroom as we bring you more details as they come.
