We’re just a day away from the official reveal of the seventh-generation Ford Fiesta, which the American automaker announced will take place in Germany on November 29th.
This follows a flurry of leaked information and spy photos surfacing showing a heavily camouflaged test vehicle that, outwardly at least, did not seem to look all too different from the current car that has been in production since 2008.
Despite its age, though, the 6th-generation Fiesta does seem to have worn the years quite well, maintaining a fresh facade against its more youthful competition thanks to Ford’s liberal use of their ‘Kinetic Design’ philosophy that was quite bold for its day.
However, issues deeper than skin betray its seniority, so expect a significant jump in comfort and refinement in addition to an improved range of powertrains. In terms of styling, however, the consensus is that the new car will not attempt any radical departures, with Ford presumed to be opting for a car that’s evolutionary and current with its present line-up where design is concerned.
The new car is also expected to be engineered and priced to appeal more to American buyers as opposed to the outgoing model’s leaning to the European market where it now competes with the Volkswagen Polo and Peugeot 208.
Also unknown is the future of the hot ST variant that was well received as part of the 6th-generation Fiesta. Its popularity may indeed discount it from a culling, but Ford may choose to wait until later in the new generation’s life cycle to roll that out as they have done with the current Focus RS.
Tomorrow, all or most of the details surrounding the 7th Ford Fiesta will be revealed in Cologne, Germany, where CEO Mark Fields and Jim Farley, Ford of Europe’s executive vice president, will be helming the unveil.
