That didn’t take long. Just days after Audi unveiled its all-new flagship sedan, the A8, digital artists have been labouring over some high quality snaps to craft sufficiently altered versions of the car before Ingolstadt themselves choose to reveal them.

Despite Audi not displaying any previous interest in expanding their largest saloon to include an Avant (wagon) body style, the folks at XTomi have saved us some mental effort by rendering this luxury load lugger for us. They’ve also taken the liberty to envision an A8 Coupe, a high-performance RS8, and a not-quite-as-high-performance S8.

It doesn’t look like they’ve touched a single pixel with regard to the front of the A8, focusing their efforts to extend the roofline into an elegant estate. We would hazard a guess that the artists used the existing A6 Avant as a basis to inform their changes pertaining to the C-pillar, roof rails, and rear hatch.

Given Audi’s affinity for this shape, we wonder why exactly they’re reluctant to introduce a legitimate A8 Avant, a more versatile alternative to their new technologically advanced luxury sedan. After all, they’ve already introduced us to an Avant version of their Prologue Concept, the car that was used as the main source of inspiration in the A8’s design.

To our eyes, the A8 would actually look better as an Avant - its generous proportions being tapered nicely by the rounded-out rear end and more clearly separated glasshouse.

They would be the first of the German premium automaker triumvirate to come out with a modern-day flagship estate, too, as both BMW and Mercedes-Benz have shied equally away from a 7 Series Touring or an S-Class Estate. Become the maverick, Audi.
