We sit on our hands as Gaydon’s newest remains under wraps.
Aston Martin has played coy this week, sharing with global media the latest teaser image of what’s touted as the 2018 Vantage. A single image of the car draped in a semi-opaque sheet has been served up to us to whet our appetites, with the primary focus of the teaser to show off a swish-looking LED light bar that stretches from side of the car to the other.
The new Vantage isn’t an entire mystery to us, with previous comments from the company stating that it would “blow the DB10 out of the water,” suggesting that the design of the Vantage would be derived from but not entirely identical to the show-stopping (automotive) star of Spectre from the James Bond movie franchise. What’s interesting is the shape the light bar takes, as it differs somewhat from earlier spy shots that showed a design with the light bar that would double-back on itself, with the final signature looking similar to the hook design we’ve seen in previous Astons.
Regardless, the Vantage will find motivation from the 4.0-litre biturbo V8 most recently employed in the DB11 V8, with some 375kW of power, before being later joined by the firm’s 5.0-litre atmo V12 joining the fray to build a lineup similar to what we already see with the Vantage range. The new vantage will be designed using an aluminium-intensive architecture derived from the DB11, which should result in greater structural rigidity while reducing overall weight, which will likely see the Vantage fair well as a more driver-focused variant in the Aston Martin range.
The 2018 Aston Martin Vantage will premier on the 21st of November, likely in V8 guise, before a full-bore V12 arrives sometime next year. Stay tuned to CarShowroom as we bring you more updates as they come.
