In the same carpark, no less.

Social media is an interesting thing. It allows us to share information at speeds once impossible, and means that any lucky Joe can find himself a viral hit, sharing the right things at the right time.

It seems that one particularly lucky Facebook user happened to stumble upon not one, but two impending Volkswagen models, completely undisguised, in a carpark. The cars in question were the full-sized Touareg SUV, and the compact Polo hatch. Both of these cars are slated for debut sometime this year, though little of the styling has been detailed thus far.

We’ll start with the Polo. Due to be unveiled in full at the Frankfurt motor show in September, the updated Polo bears design language that is in line with what Volkswagen is peddling these days. The seamless flow from headlight to headlight through the grille is very similar to what you’ll find on a Passat, while the lower-half of the fascia looking rather overcomplicated. The rear of the little Veedub is pretty neat in comparison, with sharp taillights that eat into the hatch, reminisce of the Fiat Bravo hatch.

The Touareg, parked just a few spaces down from the Polo, carried with it very minor disguise. Even without the VW badge, it’s pretty clear to see what this is. Lots of horizontal elements in the fascia (which is all we’re treated to in this shot), with the entire treatment looking similar to the bigger Atlas SUV, with its sharp lines and creases.

There’s LED headlights hiding behind the thin masking, which sees influence from the Tiguan. The new Touareg is expected to see the bundling of a plug-in hybrid powertrain, alongside conventional powertrains, and should feature all-wheel drive as standard. Volkswagen claims that the cabin will be considerably more plush, to take on rivals like the BMW X5 and Volvo XC90 head-on.

While we eagerly await official details on both these models, we’d advise Volkswagen to keep security a little tighter around their test fleet…
