Toyota's compact SUV contender gets a little closer to Australia.

2017 Toyota C-HR

Today, more details of the upcoming Toyota C-HR have been confirmed, with Toyota Australia putting up a brochure for the compact SUV on their official website.

Two variants will be offered, though both are generously specced. The base-model C-HR Active will come with conveniences like all-round parking sensors, 17-inch alloy wheels, heated folding side mirrors, GPS navigation, LED daytime running lights, LED fog lights, rear-view camera, hill start assist, automatic power windows, adaptive cruise control, and a multifunction steering wheel. It will also get things like autonomous emergency braking (AEB), lane departure waring, blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, automatic wipers, automatic high-beam, six-speaker audio system, dual-zone climate control, and fabric seats. Oh, and a 4.2-inch display nestled between the binnacles.

Top-spec Koba models get all of the aforementioned kit and tack on leather trim, full LED headlights, keyless entry and start, heated front seats, privacy tinting for the rear, LED tail-lights, blue ambient lighting, 18-inch alloy wheels, and the option of a two-tone exterior finish.

All C-HRs will be powered by the same 1.2-litre turbocharged engine, with 85kW/185Nm of twist, going through either a six-speed manual gearbox or a continuously variable (CVT) automatic. The car will be offered with eight different exterior finishes, with six of those shades available with a contrasting two-tone look (for the top-spec Koba models). The colours are Shadow Platinum silver (with optional black roof), Tidal Blue (with optional white roof), Bionic Bronze (with optional white roof), Crystal Pearl white (with optional black roof), Hornet Yellow (with optional black or white roof), and Electric Teal (with optional white roof), while Ink Black and Atomic Rush red are not available with a contrasting roof option.

The C-HR is set to take the fight on to the Honda HR-V, Nissan Juke, and Mazda CX-3, in one of the most hotly-contested and rapidly-growing segments in Australia. Toyota has indicated pricing close to $25,000 for the Koba variant, which means that the Coupe High-Rider will sit on the higher end of the market. And considering the spec, that might not be a bad thing.
