Here’s a glimpse – a few rather clear ones, actually – of the second-generation Porsche Panamera that, as of now, is still supposed to be kept under wraps until its eventual official reveal due soon – January 28th, apparently.
We knew Porsche has been focused on their new luxury super saloon for a while now, since the shortly after the release of their first one, and in the process have collected feedback from the public, from owners, and the motoring media to form this new version.
Seen here is a Panamera Turbo, with these quite legitimate looking photos emerging from Motor1.
Porsche is naturally looking forward to its release, claiming it to be the fastest four-door saloon yet with what we assume to be in its most powerful Turbo S guise. As we previously covered, it will be powered by an all-new 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 petrol engine with some other variants using carry-over motors.
And the shape, which has been the subject of innumerable debates on something entirely subjective. Regardless of what you thought of the previous Panamera, Porsche promises this all-new version will be much more of a looker. Through some spy photos, the imagination, and the teasers released, we can safety assume that Porsche’s Panamera Sport Touring had at least been a point of reference when styling this second iteration.
Sure enough, these leaked images show how they have kept an equal mix of the current Panamera in here too. From a glance, there’s little to discern, but upon closer inspection the small changes build into a car that can be accurately summarised as an ‘all-new’ model.
Up front, the fascia is a dead ringer for Porsche, taking cues from their recently launched 718 Boxster/Cayman. There are LED lamps that are accompanied by dual LED daytime running light strips below that among the lower front air intake, behind which we spy an intercooler on each side for the car’s twin turbochargers.
The new Panamera’s roofline, as we saw in the teaser shots, is lower and more raked over the older car, leading to a more coupe-like shape. At the rear we have rather thin 911-esque tail lamps connected by an LED strip much like the one on the 911 Targa. Beneath those are bumpers that, again, are designed to hide the car’s size, tapered very subtly to resemble the 911’s. The Panamera Turbo has two exhausts on each side for a quad array and an understated diffuser between them.
With the next Panamera due for its official debut just four days away from the time of writing, we’ve very close indeed having all our remaining questions about car answered. We can’t wait.
