Well, what do we have here. YouTuber ‘thedailyrey’ caught an undisguised pre-production Honda Civic Type R near Honda’s Californian headquarters, completely devoid of the obligatory disguise patterns.
What’s clear to be seen from the short video is the Type R’s distinctive three-exhaust setup, as well as the requisite dinner-table rear wing. The wide arches, chunky panelling, and 20-inch alloy wheels remind us a lot of the ‘concept’ Type R that Honda’s presented before.
What has been confirmed is the drivetrain: The Civic Type R will see motivation from a highly-tuned 2.0-litre turbocharged engine, but uptuned from the current iteration to a figure somewhere around 253kW and 400Nm. This would put it toe-to-toe with the Ford Focus RS, and above the Volkswagen Golf R (although, the hot Civic will remain front wheel drive only).
