After one of the longest and most visible countdowns in the history of the automobile, Jaguar’s gorgeous F-PACE SUV finally went public in Frankfurt.
Good news too from the engine department – the Jaguar F-PACE lineup is headed by the 280kW supercharged V6 petrol engine from the F-Type sports car.
There’s also a slightly milder version of the V6 (250kW) plus two diesels – a 132kW 2.0-litre or a 220kW 3.0-litre.
But, as usual with Jaguar and Land Rover products of recent times, it’s the astonishingly good looks which will have tongues wagging.
Pleasingly, the narrow headlights, 22-inch alloy wheels and short overhangs of the C-X17 concept car have made it into Jaguar F-PACE production.
But, at 4,731mm in length and with a 2,874mm wheelbase, the F-PACE doesn’t share its lightweight aluminium chassis with any other model.
Jaguar says the F-PACE (a rival for the likes of Porsche Macan, Audi Q5, BMW X3 etc) delivers best-in-class rear seat legroom and impressive luggage space of 650-litres (rear seat in-place).
As you would expect, the F-PACE doesn’t skimp on specifications – even the entry-level models runs Adaptive Dynamics and monotube shock absorbers.
The torque-on-demand AWD system comes from the F-Type.
And inside is the luxury one associates with Jaguar – such as Windsor soft-grain leather – and styling also reminiscent of the C-X17 concept car.
And how about this?
Jaguar F-PACE offers the world’s first ‘wearable’ car key – a waterproof, shockproof wristband which provides access to the vehicle and allows you to lock the key fob inside.
File this one under ‘C’ for ‘can’t wait to see/drive’.
