Mark down 1 March 2016 as a historic day for the automotive industry – thanks to Volkswagen-owned super-luxury brand Bugatti.
Because tonight (our time) at the Geneva Motor Show Bugatti will unveil this jaw-dropping creation – the Chiron.
This could be the most stunning car ever and you just have to own one right?
Well you’ll need around $3.6 million and you’ll need to move fast as only 500 Bugatti Chirons will be built and 170 are already spoke for.
Sitting aft of the Chiron’s two seats is a tweaked version of the Volkswagen Group’s remarkable quadruple-turbocharged 8.0-litre W16 engine – we know from the outgoing Veyron - driving through a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
And here’s some Bugatti Chiron stats which you might find hard to believe but they’re correct: maximum power is 1120kW (1500 horsepower in Europe); peak torque is 1600Nm, zero to 100km/h takes 2.5 seconds, top-speed is claimed to be 420km/h but may be 500km/h; fuel consumption is…oh, who cares!
Keeping all of this glued to the road is a new chassis with a carbon-fibre rear, driver-selectable through five settings, massive eight-piston front brakes and six-piston rears, new tyres designed and made by Michelin and of course an external design which has spent countless hours in the wind tunnel.
Inside is the hallmark Bugatti opulence in leather and carbon fibre.
Now, we could pass the hat around the office and find $3.64, so we just need someone to give us the other $3,639,996.36.
No word from Volkswagen Group Australia about any potential local customers.
