Audi pays homage to the R8 LMS GT3 racer with a special edition of their R8 V10 Plus road car.
Not the most becoming of names, if we’re honest, but Audi has nonetheless chosen it from what must have been a thick pile of other submissions. Either way, this new edition of their R8 V10 Plus supercar is meant to honour the R8 LMS GT3.
It is a very limited edition at just 24 units due to be produced, and the exclusivity is relegated to the car’s exterior and no deeper. There’s a bespoke three-tone paint finish that mimics the LMS GT3 racer as well as red accents along the car’s front and rear bumper, side skirts, and side ‘air blades’ which also has the ‘R8 24h’ logo on each side.
There is also a fixed rear wing finished in gloss black and carbon fibre, accents which are also applied to the door mirrors. Finishing it off are the wheels which are also given a black paint finish.
The motorsport theme bleeds into the R8 V10 Plus Selection 24H’s cabin as well with more gloss carbon fibre finishes dressed on interior panels, rotor grey full leather upholstery, Alcantara headlining and gloss carbon door sills which bears the serial number within the limited run. Unfortunately, at this time Audi has yet to release shots of the interior.
Despite being billed as the ‘ultimate Audi racing car for the road’, there have been no motorsport-derived alternations made to the naturally aspirated 449kW 5.2-litre V10 FSI engine or the behaviour of the quattro all-wheel drive system. The 3.2-second 0-100km/h sprint time and 330km/h top speed remain.
Not that it’s a bad thing. Audi did indeed develop this second-generation R8 alongside the LMS GT3 racing model, so the motorsport connection is present, even if it does overtly make its presence known over the standard R8 V10 Plus.
