Volkswagen’s all-new Passat range will debut at the Paris Motor Show in October but head of the that a sedan and wagon model have been revealed at the Volkswagen Design Centre in Potsdam, Germany.
The all-new Passat is 85kgs lighter than the current model, boasts fuel consumption figures up to 20 per-cent better and the lineup will include the model’s first-ever Hybrid version.
Measuring 4,767mm, Volkswagen’s all-new Passat is 2.0mm shorter than the current model, but with a wheelbase 79mm longer at 2,791mm that tells us the4 latest model has significantly shorter overhangs. All-new Passat is also 14mm lower (1,456mm) and 12mm wider (1,832mm).
Sounds like considerably more interior space to us.
You’ll also glean from the pics the rearwards shift of the cabin and lower bonnet line (Volkswagen says this adds extra ‘premium-ness’) and the new, thinner grille.
At the rear, the all-new Volkswagen sedan borrows some styling cues from Volkswagen’s excellent Phaeton luxury model (still curiously absent from the Australian model lineup) with wide, flared lower section, thinner topside and large bootlid (sounds like extra luggage space to us).
Depending on the model, headlights will be either halogen or LED and all models will run LED tail-lights.
Inside the luxo treatment gets a boost, as does technology with items like 12.3-inch TFT screen, head-up display, 360-degree camera and the world’s first Trailer Assist System.
Under the bonnet, we can expect the all-new Volkswagen Passat with a 2.0-litre bi-turbo diesel offering 500Nm of torque from 1750rpm and 4MOTION AWD and a plug-in hybrid model which can run up to 50kms on pure electric driving .
