Hyundai has boosted its excellent Santa Fe large SUV range with the addition of a sporty new range-topping model called the ‘SR’.

Priced at $59,990 it could be the best of the budget-priced performance SUVs – we know because we saw some a few weeks back at the Veloster and i40 launch on the NSW Central Coast (they’re ‘car guys’ at Hyundai and they can’t wait to get inot the latest product even if there’s some motoring journalists sniffing around!).

Why do we think it’s so good?

Well consider these specifications just to open the batting: a sports bodykit including a rear diffuser, 19x8-inch OZ Racing ‘Versilia’ alloy wheels with high-performance 235/55 R19 Michelin Latitude tyres, Brembo brakes and H-R Performance springs.

And, as it’s based on the generously equipped Santa Fe Highlander model, the SR includes as standard items like 7.0-inch touchscreen satellite navigation, 10-speakerpremium audio, rearview camera, automatic HID Xenon headlights heated forst and second row seats and a massive twin-panel panoramic glass roof.

As usual with Hyundai Australia the suspension package for the Santa Fe SR was developed locally after rigorous testing. The unique H7R Performance springs are six per-cent stiffer in front and 11 per-cent srtiffer at the rear and are matched with regular Mando dampers sourced from Korea.

The Hyundai Santa Fe SR is available in four paint colours: ‘Creamy White’ (solid), ‘Sleek Silver’, ‘Titanium Silver’ and ‘Phantom Black’ (all metallic).
