While there are some technical changes we’ll get to in a sec, perhaps the biggest news is inside – previously the colour choice was black, black or black but from 2014 the GT-R will be offered with a choice of three interior colour schemes including a new pale ivory option. The seats are part-aniline leather with stitched accents and there’s a new steering wheel.

And, as you can see, there are some significant styling changes outside, highlighted by a new front-end highlighted by new four LED headlights with new intensive LED high-beam, three different LED low-beams including long-distance illumination and wide illumination plus available adaptive lighting system. The lights also give a distinctive ‘motif’ for a ‘GT-R-unique’ on-road presence.

At the rear the hallmark four-ring tail-light design has been modified so they provide ‘coherent circles’ of illumination – again for a unique GT-R look.

There are also a new paint colour – ‘Gold Flake Red Pear’.

Perhaps the biggest news outside is a new optional carbon-fibre rear wing which is attached to a new carbon-fibre bootlid which is 50 per-cent lighter than the unit fitted to the current model.

On the technical front there’s new electronically-controlled shock absorber valves, new front spring rates, re-tuned bush links and new Dunlop SP Sport Maxx GT 600 DSST CTT tyres (stiffer sidewalls) all combining to reduce load fluctuations between all four wheels for improved grip, ride and handling. The tyres are 255/40ZRF20(97Y) at the front and 285/35ZRF20 at the rear.
