Major updates for Land Rover Discovery for the 2014 model year (on-sale March). Apart from the Range Rover-like new front-end the big news is under the bonnet – the 5.0-litre V8 petrol engine is gone, replaced by the supercharged 3.0-litre V6 delivering 250kW.

All models drive through a ZF eight-speed automatic transmission plus there’s also new technology, freshened interiors and new audio systems.

Exterior changes are plentiful – the Discovery boasting a new ‘face’ (grille, bumper, head-lights, LED DRLs) and new-design alloy wheels. And for the first time, instead of ‘RANGE ROVER’ on the bonnet, the new model runs ‘DISCOVERY’.

The ‘Black Design’ options pack which adds 19-inch or 20-inch black wheels carries-over to the new model.

Of course the attention-grabber is the new supercharged V6 petrol engine (replacing the V8). With 250kW/450Nm, the S/C V6 Discovery covers zero to 100km/h in 8.1 seconds.

The 155kW 3.0 TDV6 and 183kW 3.0 SDV6 carry-over.
