BMW claims it started the new mid-size Sports Activity Vehicle (SAV) segment with the first X3 back in 2003 (gee, Toyota RAV4 and Nissan X-TRAIL might have some arguments with that). The latest update of the second-generation X3 has been revealed with more interior space and a pair of new generation diesel engines.
Styling sees new-design twin circular headlights, an updated kidney grille plus new bumpers front and rear as well as new exterior mirrors with integrated turn signals.
Inside are new high-gloss black trim highlights, new centre console, new design chrome inlays and a new centre console with audio controls. Also available are a head-up display and a myriad of new online features under the umbrella of BMW ConnectedDrive.
But it’s the new engines which are the headline-grabbers. Debuting in the new X3 xDrive 20d is BMW’s latest 2.0-litre turbo-diesel with 140kW on-tap (5.0kW up in its predecessor but fuel use reduced by 7.1 per-cent.
Also making its premiere is the new BMW X3 sDrive 18d affording 110kW.
The latest BMW X3 debuts auto start/stop and brake energy regeneration as further fuel saving measures.
